The motherboard is absolutely the heart and soul of every computer. Motherboards and the components on them (CPU, chipsets, RAM, BIOS, Integrated controls, etc) largely defined the capabilities and limitations of any given system. ⇒ CHIPSET A chipset is an efficient and inexpensive way to bring a large number of powerful features to PCs. In the early days of the PC, motherboard were designed and built with discreet logic gates. Discrete chips demanded a lot of power and took up lots of space. Combining a PC’s sophisticated logic circuitry into a few chips dramatically shortens the signal path and allows the circuits to operate at a higher speeds is called chipsets. The overall features and capabilities of your PCs are largely defined by the motherboard chipset (sometimes called the computers core logic). Chipset actually consist of two devices; 1.
